African-American History Month
The entire Willard staff is embracing African-American History Month and folding it into our curriculum. In the library, research projects are focusing on African-Americans of note as students prepare monologues for Black Excellence Night on Feb. 25. Students are also investigating significant events to create timelines which will be posted on the bulletin boards in the hallways.
The display shelves in the library are filled with samples of the best writings by African-American authors. A poster on the front door introduces you to some authors who you may not have come across before. Check out the brown bookshelf blog to read book reviews and commentary about new works by African-American illustrators and writers for children and young adults.
